Dance at St. John’s Cathedral

Led by Jackie Peterson

In-Person

This free summer dance program at St. John’s Cathedral is for students entering grades 3-5 and features two sessions. Students are welcome to register for both sessions. No previous dance experience is necessary. Students should wear comfortable clothing they can easily move in. Families are invited to attend a Friday performance to see what their students have learned throughout the week!

Session 1 | Ballet

Dates: June 19-23

In this session, students will enhance their coordination, balance and flexibility through basic ballet techniques including barre, across-the-floor and center combinations. The week will end with a performance showcasing what the students learned.

Session 2 | Hip-Hop

Dates: July 5-7

In this session, students will develop muscle memory and learn rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography through age-appropriate movement and music. Hip-hop encompasses many different urban dance styles, as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Guest Teaching Artist Jacquareon Peterson-Thomas will assist with one class during the session. The week will end with a performance showcasing what the students learned.
