Summer Program: For the Birds – Puppet Building & Performance
Led by Katie Swider
In-Person
This camp has reached capacity, but a waitlist is available.
Through a special partnership with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, students will spend 10 weeks learning to build puppets based on birds found at the Zoo. Students will take field trips to the Zoo to photograph birds and engage in first-hand learning from the teens of the W.I.L.D. program at the Zoo.
Students will select birds from their experience at the Zoo and transform them into puppets. After examining materials and notes from their trip to the Zoo, they will also learn how to move and operate their puppets realistically.
At the end of the 10-week camp, students will return to the Zoo to perform with their puppet creations!
No previous puppet or theatre experience is required. Families are invited to attend a special performance at the Zoo at the end of the 10-week camp!
