In this full-year program for sixth graders, students will participate in multiple arts disciplines throughout the year. In each program, students will be encouraged to think critically and creatively, as well as work individually and collaboratively.

CAP will provide all supplies needed for this course.
Theatre – Led by Courtney Helen Grile
Full Year
Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of theatre arts, including expression, vocal technique, body language and movement. They will use creative theatre techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement and role-play. Through theatre games, choreography and scene work students will learn to gain trust in themselves as well as others.
Visual Arts – Led by Meredith Matthews
Fall Semester
Using artistic thinking and various art materials and approaches, students will seek to answer essential questions through making, interpreting, and curating artworks. Art lessons are designed to help students make personal connections to art as they develop their unique, artistic responses to big ideas.
Dance – Led by Jacqueline Peterson
Spring Semester
This course is designed to develop an awareness of alignment and basic dance vocabulary and technique. Students will enhance their coordination, balance and flexibility through basic dance positions and center floor exercises.

Courtney Helen Grile
Theatre Teaching Artist Fellow
Courtney Helen Grile provides theatre instruction at multiple schools and community sites throughout the year. She is a theatre artist and scholar, recently completing the requirements to earn her PhD in Drama from Trinity College Dublin. She holds a Bachelor of Fina Arts in Media & Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Central Florida. She has worked internationally as an administrator, adjunct instructor, private acting and vocal coach, teaching artist, performer, facilitator and director. Courtney joined CAP as a full-time theatre teaching artist fellow in 2022.

Meredith Matthews
Petway Teaching Artist Fellow in Visual Arts
Meredith provides visual arts instruction at multiple schools and community sites throughout the year. In addition to leading students in the classroom, she is also responsible for planning and supervising class field trips, guest artist visits and exhibition opportunities at CAP sites and throughout the Jacksonville community. Meredith majored in painting in college and has worked at regional art galleries and museums. She has also painted on commission for over a decade and her paintings are in residential, corporate and academic collections throughout Jacksonville.

Jacqueline Peterson
Dance Teaching Artist Fellow
Jacqueline provides dance instruction to multiple schools and sites throughout the year. In addition to leading students in the classroom, she will also be responsible for planning and supervising class field trips, guest artist visits and performance opportunities at CAP sites and throughout the Jacksonville community. Jacqueline has taught dance for more than 20 years, including 10 years as a part-time teaching artist for CAP and seven years with Duval County Public Schools. She is the owner and director of C&J Performing Arts which offers instruction in ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern and tap for participants of all ages.
