Students must be enrolled at Highlands Middle School to register for this course.
The jazz band class at Highlands Middle School will feature students who demonstrate excellence, teamwork, and determination. They will learn essential fundamentals of a jazz band such as blues, syncopation, swing and creative freedom. These characteristics will foster the musicianship that will carry into each musician’s academic progression. Instruments will be provided for this course.
In-person courses will follow the DCPS schedule for holidays and school closures.

Moses Evans
Teaching Artist in Music
Moses Evans is a native of Columbus, GA and a first-generation high school and college graduate. In 2006, he graduated from Edward Waters University with a degree in music performance and taught middle and high school across the U.S. for the next 14 years. He returned to Jacksonville and in 2020, in addition to graduating from the University of North Florida with a master’s in music education, Moses won the inaugural Jacksonville Image Award for music. He obtained his second master’s degree in instrumental conducting and is working toward a Doctorate in Music Education from Liberty University. Moses finds great joy in teaching, helping students find their purpose with the discipline and structure band offers. Moses joined CAP in 2022.
