Visual Arts at Parkwood Heights
Led by Christie Holechek
In-Person
Students must be enrolled at Parkwood Heights Elementary School to register for this course.
Young artists will embark on a colorful journey into the world of murals in this course! They’ll uncover the secrets behind creating large-scale masterpieces that reflect their school, neighborhood and themselves. As budding muralists, students will dive into the creative process, from initial composition to the final touches. They’ll explore the evolution of public art, tracing its roots from prehistoric cave paintings to today’s vibrant street scenes. Along the way, they’ll gain insights into the skills and trades that bring these massive artworks to life. These young creators will work both independently and as a team to transform blank walls into stunning visual stories throughout the year.
In-person courses will follow the DCPS schedule for holidays and school closures.
This program is supported by the Kids Hope Alliance.
