Grades 3-5
Visual Arts at Ortega
Led by Lindsay Bowyer
In-Person
Students must be enrolled at Ortega Elementary School to register for this course. Combining old with new, this course will cover both art appreciation and technique. Students will receive an overview of art history topics like cave painting, ancient Egyptian jewelry-making and Greek vases before moving on to modern, contemporary and local arts. This provides students with foundational knowledge while also giving them a glimpse of what it means to be a living, working artist. Each lesson is paired with a thematic project, typically completed within one to three days, depending on the skill level. Mediums will include painting, drawing, collage and assemblage.
In-person courses will follow the DCPS schedule for holidays and school closures.
