The Labor of Learning: Opening Reception
September 14, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
These pieces, wherein pillow forms are used as stand-ins for the artist’s physicality, are simultaneously a matter of conspicuous consumption and transformation. The duality suggested by the pillow form allows for multiple suggestions and meanings – from seduction and comfort, to bulbous grotesquerie. These forms, though sloppy, sidle up to sensuality. In this way, they investigate ideas of expectation, perfection, and realness.
