Music Therapy

In September 2023, CAP acquired Connecting Thru Music, a nonprofit committed to supporting the growth of music therapy in Northeast Florida.

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized non-musical goals to support learning and development. CAP offers in-school and afterschool music therapy programs across Northeast Florida for children and young adults with disabilities, led by board-certified music therapists.

Music therapists use research-based techniques that are student-centered to motivate and engage students during each session. They collaborate closely with the teachers and administrators at each site to create measurable goals that address the needs of the students. Through building connections and creating a safe environment, music therapists are able to work on foundation skills of learning, communication, and social, emotional, and motor needs of the students. Students are able to learn and engage in music naturally during each session.

CAP’s music therapy programs are supported in part by private funding and the Kids Hope Alliance

Research indicates that theatre training for children significantly improves their public speaking skills by building confidence, enhancing vocal projection, developing effective body language and fostering emotional intelligence through character exploration. The practice of performing on stage in a supportive environment helps kids feel comfortable expressing themselves publicly and it's fun!
