7th Annual Golf Tournament Raises $119,360 for Arts Education

CAP is pleased to announce that it raised $119,360 in support of arts education at its 7th Annual CAP Golf Tournament, presented by Fickling Construction. The event, chaired by CAP board member Alan Fickling, was held on October 2, 2023, at Deerwood Country Club. Since its inception, the tournament has raised over $735,000. It is the only golf tournament to support arts education on the First Coast.

“I continue to be amazed at the outpouring of support from our community to provide essential arts education for children and young adults in Northeast Florida,” said Tournament Chair and Presenting Sponsor Alan Fickling. “This golf tournament was a dream of mine many years ago and to see it continue to thrive thanks to the hard work and generosity of so many is a wonderful testament to CAP’s mission to empower every child’s creative spirit through the arts.”

The Capitol Materials Coastal team took home the grand prize with the best net score of the day, followed by Wooten Strategic Advisors in second place and the Sherwin-Williams team in third. Golfers, staff and volunteers enjoyed the awards ceremony, where Fickling, CAP Vice President of Philanthropy Doug Walker, and CAP Dance Teaching Artist Fellow Jacqueline Peterson spoke about the importance of arts education for children in Northeast Florida.

Peterson shared with attendees her own experience as a young artist. She discussed how finding dance at a young age opened a world of new possibilities and opportunities for her, and that it kept her focused, busy, thriving and hopeful. She said this is exactly what she sees in each of her CAP students every year.

“Students start the year like a closed flower, and by the time they reach the stage at Showcase they are blooming bright and confident,” said Peterson. “And it’s support from the community and events like this golf tournament that allow CAP to continue to impact so many children in so many ways.”
