7th Annual Golf Tournament Raises $119,360 for Arts Education

CAP is pleased to announce that it raised $119,360 in support of arts education at its 7th Annual CAP Golf Tournament, presented by Fickling Construction. The event, chaired by CAP board member Alan Fickling, was held on October 2, 2023, at Deerwood Country Club. Since its inception, the tournament has raised over $735,000. It is the only golf tournament to support arts education on the First Coast.

“I continue to be amazed at the outpouring of support from our community to provide essential arts education for children and young adults in Northeast Florida,” said Tournament Chair and Presenting Sponsor Alan Fickling. “This golf tournament was a dream of mine many years ago and to see it continue to thrive thanks to the hard work and generosity of so many is a wonderful testament to CAP’s mission to empower every child’s creative spirit through the arts.”

The Capitol Materials Coastal team took home the grand prize with the best net score of the day, followed by Wooten Strategic Advisors in second place and the Sherwin-Williams team in third. Golfers, staff and volunteers enjoyed the awards ceremony, where Fickling, CAP Vice President of Philanthropy Doug Walker, and CAP Dance Teaching Artist Fellow Jacqueline Peterson spoke about the importance of arts education for children in Northeast Florida.

Peterson shared with attendees her own experience as a young artist. She discussed how finding dance at a young age opened a world of new possibilities and opportunities for her, and that it kept her focused, busy, thriving and hopeful. She said this is exactly what she sees in each of her CAP students every year.

“Students start the year like a closed flower, and by the time they reach the stage at Showcase they are blooming bright and confident,” said Peterson. “And it’s support from the community and events like this golf tournament that allow CAP to continue to impact so many children in so many ways.”

CAP would especially like to thank those who made the tournament a success, including event sponsors, Sam Kouvaris for emceeing the live auction and awards, and the golf tournament committee which includes Nader Farhat, PwC; Marty Kern, Constellation Brands; Robbie Manners, Bank of America Private Bank; Steve McCall, Florida Paint Company; Alan Pickert, Terrell Hogan; Larry Turknett, J. Williams Construction; and Bill Warden, Dark Matter Technologies, LLC.

The 8th Annual CAP Golf Tournament will be held in fall 2024.

The giving season reminds us what matters most: the moment a student experiences pride after creating something meaningful—a painting, a song, a performance. That creative discovery transforms how young people see themselves and their potential.

At the Cathedral Arts Project, your support creates immediate impact. A $25 donation provides art supplies for students. $50 covers a week of music instruction. $100 brings dance education to students who would otherwise never have access.

Every gift strengthens our ability to serve more students throughout Northeast Florida.

Participation in the arts creates extraordinary change in the lives of children that sets them up to succeed in school and in life. Research consistently shows clear links between arts involvement and positive outcomes in academics, creative and critical thinking, personal behavior, and social and civic participation. These benefits reinforce the essential value of the arts to enrich not only individual children and young adults, but also their communities.
